Handmade Solid Wood Furniture Studio

Built by hand, joined to last

Grain & Joint builds every piece from solid hardwood, joined the way furniture was joined before particleboard existed — dovetails, mortise-and-tenon, no staples, no shortcuts you can't see.

Joint 01 — The Workshop

One floor, one wood, no particleboard

Grain & Joint opened in 2013 in a single converted mill floor, and everything still happens under that one roof — milling, joinery, assembly, and finishing, by the same small crew from first cut to delivery.

Every joint is cut to be seen, not hidden under a panel. If you turn a piece over, the joinery is the same on the underside as it is on the front — that's the whole standard we hold ourselves to.

  • Solid hardwood only — no MDF, no particleboard
  • Hand-cut dovetail & mortise-and-tenon joinery
  • Locally sourced walnut, white oak & maple
  • Every commission signed and dated underneath
Joint 02 — What We Build

From the bench

Six things we build regularly, plus anything you can sketch and we can source the wood for.

I.

Dining Tables

Solid-slab and trestle tables built to your room, seat count, and wood.

II.

Case Furniture

Dressers, sideboards, and cabinets, dovetailed drawer by drawer.

III.

Seating

Dining chairs, benches, and stools, shaped and joined for daily use.

IV.

Custom Commissions

Bring a sketch, a photo, or a rough idea — we'll draw it up before any wood is cut.

V.

Wood Selection Consult

An in-shop walk through the slab rack before you commit to a species or grain pattern.

VI.

Repair & Refinishing

Loose joints reglued, tabletops resurfaced, old finishes stripped and rebuilt by hand.

Questions

Most tables and case pieces take 6–10 weeks from wood selection to delivery, depending on the size and how busy the shop is. We'll give you a real date at the consult, not a range.
Mostly local black walnut, white oak, and hard maple, sourced from regional mills. If you're after something specific, ask — we can usually source it.
Yes, locally at no extra charge on furniture commissions. Outside our local radius we crate and ship, with assembly instructions built for solid joinery, not flat-pack hardware.
Structural joints — if a mortise-and-tenon or dovetail ever fails under normal use within 25 years, we repair or rebuild it at no cost.
